Basemark Collaborates in Automated Driving Project Led By Mercedes Benz AG

The Goal Is Enabling Automated Driving in Variable Weather and Traffic Conditions

Helsinki, Finland, June 2, 2021 – Basemark has been nominated to join the AI-SEE Eureka/Penta project aiming to develop AI solutions and enhance vehicle vision in low visibility conditions.

The project has been initiated by the European Automotive industry to ensure competitiveness against an increasing pressure caused by U.S. and Chinese industries. The aim is to develop new game changing artificial intelligence based technologies for the global race between automotive OEMs developing autonomously driving vehicles.

Basemark will identify safety and performance opportunities in the hardware and software layers and validate these with the sensor and algorithm research work products. Furthermore, Basemark will develop a productized safety and portability solution for SAE level 3-4 algorithm acceleration to enable faster industrialization of AI-SEE.

The project is coordinated by Mercedes Benz AG and there are 23 automotive component suppliers and research stakeholders on-board from Austria, Canada, Finland, Germany, Israel and Sweden. The biggest benefit is that the whole value chain from sensor suppliers up to end users is co-creating feasible solutions to vehicle markets.

Basemark is co-funded by Business Finland as part of its AI Business Program, enabling joining to the AI-SEE Eureka/Penta project. The project is innovating utilization of AI based algorithms in the vehicle industry and an emerging gateway for the Finnish industry to enter to the global vehicle markets with top-class European automotive stakeholders.

“We are excited about joining the program and collaborating with all the participating companies. Basemark has several years of experience in developing autonomous driving software for series production, and we believe our Rocksolid Compute and Graphics middleware technologies will be key to getting Level 4 autonomy on public roads. Furthermore, coming from Finland with very long and dark winters where snow, slush and sleet are a daily occurrence, we have an excellent understanding of challenges for computer vision systems.” says Tero Sarkkinen, CEO of Basemark.
