Technical Artist – Automotive Projects

Automotive continues to explode in Finland of all places! Maybe one day we will build a car here which the world loves like the old Nokia days…or maybe the author of this job ad is completely off his rocker? Yes, yes! In lieu of that magic actually happening, Basemark continues to propel Finland’s automotive push in the global race to get cars driving autonomously (safely). Our R&D is already deep into our own ambitious automotive software platform. Now it’s time to focus on our Professional Services division…

Are you a blossoming technical artist who is really into cars? Do you have the flexibility to potentially spend a few months in Italy, or Germany, or the US? Or even if you want to stay in Finland, this is a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ type opportunity. If you are into 3DSMax or Maya, we will train you how to use today’s hottest industrial design tools. We have big customers and real product development. Once you add commercial applications to your work experience, you can make it anywhere.

At BASEMARK

(www.basemark.com, a 6 year old software company based in Finland with offices in Munich, Detroit, Seoul and Taipei, we make Brains for cars. Whether it’s merging Compute with Graphics in a real-time environment (by way of Vulkan GPU), real world autonomous intelligent systems, machine learning, computer vision, algorithms, or building upon AutoSAR Classic & Adaptive and Linux stacks for a safety critical full solution……we are shaking the Earth by creating the world’s first end to end automotive software platform.

We are world-class experts in real-time 3D graphics, compute programming and design. We have the customers, we have the technology, and we are scaling up our tech by productizing it and adding further compute and graphics capabilities as we change autonomous driving forever (and for the better). And with an infusion of millions in cash from investors and profit too, we are hiring more world-class experts to help us build our products to scale.

So, the JOB:

You will either work on our own products or you will work on customer projects, we need you to be flexible : )

If you work on customer projects, these are rather cool, and you will get to work very closely with automotive HMI design. Here you get to be a part of tomorrow’s cars, you can learn useful tools you can apply later like qt and Kanzi.

You will work directly on an HMI team at one of our premium car customers. You will work on iterations of instrument cluster graphics, some creative parts in the beginning and then it gets technical! You will work with Kanzi and Qt, to match graphics with APIs, modeling, creating various prototypes and models from our graphics team to get close to the instrument cluster and cockpit screens.

Our overall projects are all very “future oriented” and Agile, i.e. there are no set deliverables or requirements. Hence, the artists and designers working on our projects will have to innovate and be prepared to offer multiple iterative and evolving concepts during each project.

You will create proof of concepts which show certain aspects of the UI as interactive (for example) and other aspects as placeholders for real functionality.

Requirements:

  • 3D animation experience (Qt Design Studio or Kanzi would be superb)
  • Experience creating mood boards and lo-fi (paper) prototypes
  • Wireframing, rapid prototyping
  • Creating hi-fi designs in Figma/Sketch/Photoshop
  • Some scripting here and there

Bonus skills:

Automotive UI experience
