Basemark embarks on a European roadshow with latest AR HUD applications

Basemark, the leading provider of automotive Augmented Reality (AR) software, will soon be hitting the road around Europe with its pilot car. From November 4th to November 14th, Basemark will be visiting major OEMs to showcase AR Heads-Up Display (AR HUD) experiences powered by its AR software, Rocksolid AR.

Aligning AR with the real world – A Key Challenge in automotive AR

Augmented reality is transforming how drivers interact with their car, resulting in safer and more engaging driving experience. AR-enhanced projections displayed on e.g. windshields, AR glasses, instrument clusters or infotainment screens can help to bring more clarity to navigation and perceive potential hazards earlier and reduce cognitive load.

However, for an immersive and safe experience, it is critical that augmented projections align with the real world in real-time without obstructing the driver to see essential information. This is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges in automotive AR, particularly with AR HUDs where the content is projected directly into the driver’s line of sight.

Basemark is committed to solving this issue. Its AR software solution, Rocksolid AR, has been developed to ensure that AR projections are aligned with the real-world and ensure that the right information is displayed at the right time and place during the drive. Rocksolid AR features a low-code development environment that enables automotive OEMs to rapidly design and develop AR applications, significantly speeding up the development process.

“We are thrilled to embark on this roadshow, where we can demonstrate to customers what can be created using Rocksolid AR. Seeing these applications working in a real car on real roads is far more impactful than watching videos and presentation slides. Given the complexities of developing automotive AR, including ensuring stable and low-latency graphics, experiencing the technology live is essential to truly appreciate its impact on the driving experience,” says Tero Sarkkinen, founder and CEO of Basemark.
