Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal

Currently, we have available Basemark ES 3.1 for OpenGL ES 3.1 powered Android devices and Basemark Metal for iOS Metal powered devices.

One of the ground breaking new features in Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal is the ability to run custom tests by toggling various graphics features on or off. This innovation enables users to measure how specific graphical effects tax the device and to detect performance bottlenecks.

PC-Game Quality Visual

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal contains extremely heavy graphics content rendered with detail and complexity, thus pushing the tested device to the limit. All the major graphics features that will be increasingly used in future games are included in the tests.

Easy Bottleneck Detection

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal allows users to toggle on or off six different graphics features, thus easily measure how well the device handles certain features, and find out where the bottlenecks could be. This unique tool will be a boon for every game developer.

FPS and Comparable Scores

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal produces an objective and comparable score based on the total frame time needed to complete the test workloads. The higher score, the better performance. Pro and Corporate versions also show detailed FPS results.

"The new Basemark ES 3.1 allows reviewers and hardware manufacturers to test precisely against some of these graphics features to see where a GPU or CPU struggles the most."

Test and Graphics Features

Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal test provides six different configurable graphics features: Lighting, SSAO, Particles, Water Simulation, Bloom Effect, and Post-Processing Effects. By default Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal will execute the test, first with all features enabled, then with no feature enabled (baseline), and finally with each individual configurable feature enabled.

These six configurable features are grouped into four Official Features to generate Feature Test results under Baseline Measurements, which indicate how well the device handles a particular official feature.

Benchmark Results

Besides the default test execution, Corporate and Pro versions of Basemark ES 3.1 / Metal also allows users to customize test runs from the Configuration menu where users can change the test settings, such as features on and off. Results of these custom test runs will be shown in FPS. The Free version however supports only default settings.

Additionally, Corporate version allows users to customize and execute test runs using auto-run scripting. Scripting is a powerful tool for professional benchmark users, enabling the tracking of FPS history, configuring tests runs, test features, screenshots, testing time, and data exporting.
