Basemark GPU 1.1 Update Released

Updated Basemark GPU with DX12, OpenGL 4.5, Enhanced Linux Support

Today Basemark releases version 1.1 of its multi-platform graphics hardware evaluation tool Basemark® GPU. Basemark GPU has been made available for free to download and use for personal users. Additionally, Basemark has provided professional versions for Benchmark Development Program members, corporate and commercial users.

Basemark® GPU 1.1 Benchmark offers unparalleled, objective comparisons between Vulkan, OpenGL, OpenGL ES and now DirectX 12 for graphics performance analysis across both mobile and desktop platforms. Our desktop Linux version of Basemark® GPU 1.1 will be available in the next few days utilizing the easily installable universal Flatpak delivery format.

Basemark® GPU at a glance

Basemark® GPU is the first truly platform-agnostic graphics performance evaluation tool for systems supporting Vulkan 1.0, OpenGL 4.5, DX12, and OpenGL ES 3.1 graphics APIs.

With desktop Linux support in addition to Windows and Android support, our performance measurement tool enables industry players and consumers alike the ability to objectively and meaningfully compare graphics performance of next-generation mobile, desktop, and even automotive processors.

Benchmark Neutrality

The Basemark® GPU benchmarking tool has been developed in close cooperation with a group of the world’s leading semiconductor companies. These companies include Imagination Technologies, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Renesas, all of whom participate in Basemark’s Benchmark Development Program (BDP). In addition, Basemark works with the largest non-BDP members and their hardware, including AMD, to ensure an unbiased benchmark built to industry standards.

Basemark’s tight-knit collaboration with competing GPU and CPU development companies ensures that the Basemark® GPU benchmark offers optimal reliability and maintains objectivity through adherence to group standards. Our benchmarks are built strictly to meet the specifications set by the industry. Neutrality and unbiased analytics are core to our philosophy, and we base our reputation on a lack of favoritism towards any specific manufacturer’s products.

 

Summary of the Last Releases

Basemark® GPU 1.0 and hotfix 1.02 were released in June 2018 to an overwhelmingly warm reception from the community.

With around 40,000 publicly submitted official results – 33,000 of which were from desktop platforms and around 7,000 from mobile devices – in the weeks after the launch, we easily surpassed our adoption expectations. Added to these figures are several 100,000 custom, corporate and media runs which are not counted in our public results.

There were, of course, some hiccups as well: we underestimated the server capacity and bandwidth quotas our server needed to meet the demand for downloads and submitting results. Also, we required a GPU 1.0.2 hotfix to solve an issue where creative users with certain driver versions could alter their score by resizing the window on their device. Needless to say, we have taken these lessons into consideration and hope to be prepared for our community members in this Basemark® GPU 1.1 release!

Basemark Power Board for view results and top performance lists

Our team is working hard to build a radically overhauled new Power Board for displaying top performers, which will include proper comparisons for different devices, components, and operating systems. Usability has been our major focus during development.

We will be continuously updating this as it is not tied to any one specific release or tool.

Hello and welcome to the Basemark blog. This is a place for anyone who shares our interest in the graphics and GPUs, either as an enthusiast, seasoned professional or someone looking to enter the industry. We’d like to open our doors to you and give a sneak peek into the hottest stuff in the graphics industry.

Basemark is a small but spicy company headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with a specialty in real-time 3D graphics. We work with top tier hardware manufacturers using their latest hardware, drivers and APIs. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality performance services and cutting-edge engine technology. We want our work to help drive our partners towards new innovations in the industry.

We want to be the bridge between expectations and reality. Our mission is to enhance chipset performance through our specialized software, recognized industry talent, and 20 years of graphics heritage and data.

Our team is made up of leaders in benchmarking, computer graphics, GPU compute acceleration and real-time rendering. The use case for Basemark’s products covers technology in challenging vertical markets that, in addition to the features above, increasingly rely on machine learning. Applicability of the software we can offer includes numerous industries: automotive, manufacturing, aviation, military, machine vision, architecture & engineering, energy & utilities, and healthcare.

What we offer serves these verticals with performance far beyond other off-the-shelf toolkits, thanks to our leading real-time graphics and compute software solution for mission-critical industrial applications, which we call the RocksolidEngine. In addition to that, we develop a portfolio of a professional chip and system performance evaluation software.
